• The cashew tree is a perennial plant that typically takes 4 to 7 years after planting before it begins to yield harvests.
  • The cashew season starts in February and ends in May – when the first rains of the season begin to fall, it also marks the end of the cashew harvest.
  • In Vietnam, cashews are harvested entirely by hand, as labor costs are relatively low. For an 8-hour workday, a farmer typically earns around $11 for harvesting. It usually takes 3 to 5 people to harvest 1 hectare of cashew trees per day. Among them, two people pick the fruits from the trees using simple tools, two collect the fallen fruits from the ground, and one separates the nut from its shell.
  • On average, about 200 kilograms of cashew nuts can be harvested from one hectare per day—sometimes slightly more or less.
  • After harvesting, the fresh cashew nuts are sun-dried, stored in warehouses, and then go through various processing stages to produce different grades such as W210, W240, WS, BB, and more.
